New Orleans Municipal Candidates Respond to Louisiana Progress Policy Questionnaire

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–September 18, 2025

New Orleans Municipal Candidates Respond to Louisiana Progress Policy Questionnaire

Ahead of the 2025 New Orleans municipal elections, Louisiana Progress worked with partner organizations to design a policy survey that covered numerous important issues facing the city. Those survey results are now live on louisianaprogress.org

NEW ORLEANS, LA | September 18, 2025—New Orleans stands at a pivotal moment in its long and unique history. Over the past five years, the city has experienced an alarming population decline due to many different factors. Fortunately, the upcoming municipal elections–with mayor, city council, sheriff, and clerk up for grabs–present an opportunity for city residents to elect new leaders who can help turn the tide.

“In our survey, we tried to dive into some of the most important policy issues facing the city,” said Peter Robins-Brown, executive director of Louisiana Progress, “as well as some that haven’t been discussed quite as deeply during the election season. We hope to make sure the problems and potential solutions we touched on in this survey remain front of mind for candidates and the public throughout the rest of the campaign, as well as once some of these candidates take office in January.”

Some of the topics included in the survey are:

  • Childcare & healthcare costs

  • Housing & homelessness

  • Good government

  • Policing & surveillance

  • Labor issues

  • Environmental protection

… and more.

An overwhelming majority of candidates for this fall’s elections replied to the survey. You can find all of the questions and responses, broken out by mayor and city council, on the Louisiana Progress website: https://www.louisianaprogress.org/municipal-agenda.
