for Poor and
Working-Class Louisianans
Too many people, including a lot of our elected officials, say that Louisiana is a “poor state.” But that’s not true. It also represents a defeatist attitude. Louisiana is, in fact, a rich state–we’re rich in people and culture and history, natural beauty and resources and geography–but we have a very high poverty rate.
That dynamic is largely a product of policy choices our leaders have made over and over again, generation after generation, and continue to make to this day. At Louisiana Progress, we advocate for our leaders to make different choices.
We seek to ensure that poor and working class Louisianans are centered in every decision, because we know that if we take that approach we can build a state where every Louisianan can be free to take advantage of the richness of our state and lead rich lives, however they may define what a rich life means to them.
